ESSEX OPEN WATER SWIMS 2025 - HANNINGFIELD RESERVOIR - SOLD OUT
Wild Deer Events venture back down South to Essex and the majestic Hanningfield Reservoir which sits between Billericay and Chelmsford and we are delighted to offer you the opportunity to swim in the beautiful waters on Saturday 17th May. The site is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and as such, this opportunity does not arise very often!

Hanningfield Reservoir
Hanningfield Reservoir boasts mature woodland and offers superb views over the 870 acre Hanningfield Reservoir. The nature reserve offers some beautiful walks through the woodland, taking in bird hides, ponds and views across the reservoir. The site is run in partnership with Essex & Suffolk Water and you can walk through the reserve to the Essex & Suffolk Water Fishing Lodge and the Cafe on the Water. The reservoir itself is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to the important numbers of wildfowl that use the reservoir in the autumn and winter, including Gadwall, Tufted Duck and Pochard.
Event Distances
750m or 1,500m
There will be a marked 750m swim course and 1,500m swimmers will complete 2 laps.
There will be safety boats & first aid at the waters edge throughout the event.
Wetsuit Policy
We expect the water temperature to be warm enough to not require a wetsuit however we do recommend them.
Timing
There will be Live Chip-Timing through Timing Up North.
The Finish
All finishers will get an Event Medal, Wild Deer Merchandise, a snack and a drink.
Parking
There is free parking for all participants.
Due to the reservoir being a Site of Scientific Investigation, dogs are not permitted anywhere around the reservoir.
