LAKE DISTRICT TRAIL RUNS  

Our extremely popular annual trip to the Lake District for Grasmere returns in March 2027!

We are excited to launch a brand new Half Marathon route alongside the sell out 5km and 10km Trail Runs.

  • Saturday 20th March – Trail Runs
  • Sunday 21st March – Duathlons

The fabulous trail routes are loved by runners each year, with many describing the 10km route as one of the most beautiful in the UK!

About Grasmere

Set alongside Grasmere Lake, the village is surrounded by a panorama of fells and mountains. Grasmere is perhaps best known as the home of William Wordsworth, described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found."

Routes are free to view and download (please ignore any pop-ups).

The brand new Half Marathon route takes in parts of Grasmere Village, Grasmere Water, Rydal Water, passes Rydal Caves, skirts around Loughrigg Fell to Ambleside Park and back to Rydal Water. 

The 10km route takes in parts of Grasmere Village, Grasmere Water, Rydal Water, and passes Rydal Caves at its peak.

The 5km route is perfect for beginners and follows a scenic lap of Grasmere Water.

Canicross

  • This event is cani-cross friendly
  • One controlled dog per runner is allowed
  • Dogs must be on a short lead at all times

Start Times

  • 5km – 9:50am
  • 10km – 10:00am
  • Half Marathon - 9.45am

There will be a separate start for cani-cross runners. 

Timing

Live Chip Timing will be provided by Timing Up North.

All finishers receive:

  • Event Medal

  • Drink & Snack

Parking

Limited on-site parking is available for £4. We will accommodate as many vehicles as possible; some competitors may need to use public parking nearby if the ground is wet or the car park is full.

A boutique hotel in the heart of the village, offering 11 en-suite rooms, a restaurant and a peaceful garden running down to the River Rothay.

The Yan at Broadrayne
Set just outside Grasmere at Broadrayne Farm, The Yan offers stylish accommodation surrounded by beautiful Lake District scenery, with its own bistro serving breakfast and dinner.

A great spot for coffee, breakfast, cakes and freshly baked treats — perfect for a pre-race coffee or a post-run pick-me-up.

A classic Lake District inn with a welcoming bar, perfect for settling down with a well-earned drink after your run.

EXPLORE GRASMERE

You're surrounded by some of the Lake District's most spectacular scenery, so why not stay a little longer?

Take a walk around Grasmere Water, explore the surrounding fells, visit Wordsworth's former home at Dove Cottage or simply wander around the village and enjoy the views. Grasmere is also home to the famous Grasmere Gingerbread Shop — an essential stop for a post-race treat.

With so many walking routes and beautiful landscapes right on the doorstep, there's plenty to keep you busy before and after race day.
